Terra Rossa Riesling dry
The grape variety:
This wine comes from the "Ungsteiner Weilberg" site - one of the most traditional sites in the Palatinate. Almost 2000 years ago, Roman settlers founded a winery here (the remains can still be seen) and thus brought viticulture to the region. The heart of the Weilberg, which is also popularly known as "Red Earth", is unique in its kind. Not only the climatic favorable exposure of the vineyards, but above all the soil shape the wines growing here.
The floor:
In contrast to the otherwise predominant Buntsandstein, the Weilberg soil consists of clayey loam. The high iron content (Fe2O3) produces a soil type that is also known as "Terra Rossa" (Red Earth). The intense red color of the soil, which is an indication of a particularly good supply of minerals, gives the Weilberg its special status. In Germany very, very rarely found, in the Palatinate even uniquely in Ungstein, Terra Rossa actually occurs more in the Mediterranean area.
The wine:
As the name "Terra Rossa" indicates, this high-quality Riesling comes from the red heart of the Weilberg. After the "Weilberg Großes Gewächs", it is the second top wine from this unique location from Pfeffingen. Only the best grapes were selected here by hand, gently pressed and fermented in a controlled manner over a period of several months. The terroir of the wine is preserved thanks to aroma-protective aging and long storage on the yeast. The scent of the Ungsteiner Terra Rossa dry Riesling is characterized by fine pineapple and grapefruit aromas. On the palate it presents itself as spicy-herbal, dense and complex. Its mineral nature and powerful body also testify to great aging potential.
