Ungstein Merlot "SP"
trocken

The grape variety:

Merlot is an internationally recognized grape variety and is used by all in the great wines of St Emilion and Pomerol.

Winegrower Jan Eymael got to know and appreciate the grape variety on numerous trips abroad (e.g. California, Australia, France). So it was only a matter of time before the first vineyard with this variety was planted in the Pfeffingen winery.

The floor:

Merlot loves warm soils and good vineyard locations. Therefore, the first vineyard of this variety was planted in the immediate vicinity of the winery in the "Ungsteiner Nussriegel" site. A higher proportion of sand ensures that the soil heats up well and that the grapes ripen early.

The wine:

Only selected, highly aromatic grapes are used for the Merlot -SP-. An early "green harvest" reduces the yield drastically in order to allow the remaining grapes to ripen better. The grapes are carefully picked by hand, fermented on the mash and then stored in small oak barrels for around 18 months.

Dark berries such as blackberries and elderberries dominate the scent. The taste of the Merlot is dense, powerful and yet has a very delicate tannin structure. A great meal companion!
