The climate

Situated in the "Upper Rhine Valley" the wine-growing region of the Palatinate is famous for her especially warm climate within Central Europe.

In the west the region is protected by a forest called "Pfälzer Wald" that can be compared to a huge protective wall and in the north and east by a crest of ridge that winds its way towards the River Rhine without permitting cold winds to penetrate the country. Vines, almonds, figs, sweet chestnuts and more southern plants give a Mediteranean flair to the Palatinate.

This has been proved by 1800 hours of sunshine of which there are 200 in each single month of the summertime which are especially important for the vegetation. Therefore the average temperature in this region lies between 9.1°C and 10.1°C.

It lies in the nature of things that a lot of sunshine excludes a lot of rain. The clouds which normally approach from the west drop their rain over the "Pfälzer Wald" before reaching the wine area. Therefore only between 500 and 600 mm of rain fall there, fortunately well spread over all the months of the year. You should personally convince yourself of the mild climate and the beauty of this region.

It is the wine-growing estate of Pfeffingen that will welcome you with the greatest pleasure and that will help you with organizing any accomodation you´ll need.
